Just Listening to a Podcast…

Here’s 3 reasons why you should think about subscribing to a few podcasts.

1.      Multitasking

Most productivity experts say that multitasking takes away the quality of both activities we are working on. However, this is really only the case when concentration is required for both activities such as:

  • Listening to a lecture while writing a paper
  • Trying to text while talking to someone

When a non-thinking activity is combined with thinking exercise both can be done with excellence. This means that one can listen to an educational podcast or sermon while:

  • Exercising
  • Cleaning
  • Getting ready in the morning
  • Lying in bed

2.       Alternative activity to reading

As a college student I read and write every day like many other people. Believe it or not, sometimes I get sick of just reading. Listening is a great alternative to my normal activities. I think that it is more interesting to listen than to read because I get the opportunity to hear the emphasis and passion in a voice, which is not something that can be picked up in pure text.

3.       Variety of Material

With podcasts you can get little snippets of history, science, news, leadership and Biblical knowledge throughout your day without having to commit to reading a whole book on a specific topic.

4.       My Favorite podcasts

Here are some of the podcasts that I find interesting

  • Brain Stuff with Marshall Brain
  • EntreLeadership (by Dave Ramsey)
  • This is your life (Michael Hyatt)
  • Sermon Audio
    • You may be able to subscribe to your Pastor’s sermons through this site

What are some podcasts that you would recomend?
